Exhibit & Reception at Carrabassett Valley Public Library

John recently hung a new show at the Carrabassett Valley Public Library featuring images from around the High Peaks Region of Western Maine in various seasons.

The artist reception will be held on Thursday, February 18th from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m.  Along with wine and cheese, John will present a slide show discussing many of the photographic opportunities in the High Peaks Region of Western Maine (including natural and man-made environments) at 5 p.m.  The presentation will be in the Begin Family Community Room at the Carrabassett Valley Public Library & Community Center.

Cathedral Pines in Snow

Cathedral Pines, located in Eustis, Maine is one of the largest old-growth stands of Red Pines (Pinus Resinosa) in the North East United States. This beautiful mature Red Pine forest on the shore of Flagstaff Lake at 1,150′ above sea level is the site of a popular seasonal campground.  Fresh snow on smaller spruce trees provides separation and scale for the towering red pine trunks reaching to the forest canopy.

January 2016 Image of the Month: Mosher Hill Winter Storm

Photographed at the height of a heavy January snowstorm with howling wind, this strand of maple trees at the base of Norton Mountain near Farmington, Maine appear as ghost trees, floating above the ground.  Low temperatures and swirling snow made camera operation and mobility difficult.
