Class Photo, Dexter, Maine – (Goats DXCsp9)

These goats were grouped in a field outside of Dexter, Maine last spring. When Cindy walked to the fence, they lined up for their photo, all but one looking directly into the lens. The guy on the left is a non-conformist, possibly the class clown.

Nikon D750, 24-120mm lens, 1/250 sec @ f/5, ISO 500, manual focus, spot metered, handheld.

June 2015 – Dandelion Field with Overhanging Tree

Dandelion Field with Overhanging Tree
Dandelion Field with Overhanging Tree: New Sharon, Maine

Along the banks of the meandering Sandy River between Farmington and New Sharon, Maine, fields of Dandelions thrive in the fertile soil of the flood plain. For this photograph the three contributors to the composition, Yellow Field, Foreground Tree and leading lines of the Tractor Path converge to create a dynamic image on an overcast day.

May 2015 – Little River

Little River, Freeport, Maine
Little River, Freeport, Maine

At first, this front lit scene, near the head waters of the Little River in Freeport, Maine, appeared to be problematic.  But, by shifting my location I was able to take advantage of the screening effect of the overhead branches.  Direct sunlight was shielded my lens, allowing me to make this photograph without concern about flare.  Early spring green foliage, reflected in the water, helps define the water path into the woods.

April 2015- Carrabassett River Early Spring Gold

4-15-Early-Spring-Carrabassett-River-Gold

The glow of sunset falls on the open water of the Carrabassett River in Western Maine in early April, turning its rippling water into a golden flow. The river course is defined by crusty snow, formed by repeated cycles of freezing and thawing spring weather conditions. The melting, snow-lined banks provide strong contrast to the open moving waterway.
