JOHN & CYNTHIA ORCUTT

Photographers

Biography

John and Cynthia Orcutt are fine art photographers and avid outdoor enthusiasts. Following a distinguished career as an architect and landscape architect team, they have pursued, through photography, their interest in creating an awareness of the necessity for active preservation of fragile places. Living in the village of Kingfield, surrounded by Maine’s High Peak mountains, rivers, valleys, and lakes, this landscape has been the source of much of their photography. In 2017 their fine art photography book, ‘Enduring Heights, The High Peaks of Maine’, was published and sold out within the year. They are currently developing a new publication featuring the built environment of the High Peaks. Fortunate to spend significant time in other places such as the Teton Valley of Idaho, Scotland, New Zealand, and the American South and West, the couple has developed photographic portfolios of these places.

The Orcutt’s work has been exhibited widely and is in many public and private collections. John is a past Board member of Maine Huts & Trails and the Wolfe’s Neck Farm Foundation, now the Wolfe’s Neck Center. Cynthia is Vice Chair of the Maine Arts Commission, a member of the Maine Advisory Board to the Trust for Public Land and a Director of the High Peaks Cultural Coalition. She is a trustee emeritus of Waynflete School.
