Red Maples (acre rubrum), usually the first tree to show brilliant fall foliage at the edges of bogs and other wetlands, are not sporting the scarlet hues we normally expect this fall. Visits to some of our typical haunts have not been successful with the dull maroon color exhibited. Today I was reminded of another stormy day a couple of years ago on MDI.
